Why Being Active Doesn't Have to Mean Going for a Walk

June 17, 20262 min read

Hey Lovely,

One thing that stood out from the last Break the Cycle group was how differently the women started looking at being active daily.

Everyone joined wanting to be more consistent with their fitness.
What surprised many of them was how quickly being active stopped being something that only happened during a dedicated walk.

The group ran through a particularly wet spell, and, as we all know, rain has a habit of making even a short walk feel like more effort than it's worth. Yet despite the weather, the women kept finding ways to move.

What Is a Minimum Boost?

The idea that landed most strongly was a minimum boost.

Instead of asking "can I do my full walk today," the question became

"What's the smallest version I can still do?"

A shorter walk. Ten minutes instead of thirty. A quick loop around the block. Something instead of nothing.

Why We Stop Moving
When We Can't Do It Perfectly

For many of us, the problem isn't that we don't know moving more matters. It's that we've quietly decided that if we can't do it properly, it doesn't count. Once we let go of that very limiting belief we start noticing opportunities everywhere.

Small Opportunities to Move More

Walking up escalators instead of standing still. Getting off the bus a stop earlier. Using the toilet on a different floor. Moving while the kettle boils. None of it feels significant on its own, but together it adds up to a far more active day than any single walk could.

Sometimes Small Changes
Lead to Bigger Results

Many of the women almost didn't join in the first place.
They'd spent weeks thinking about it, weighing it up, wondering if now was really the right time. One of them put it perfectly:

"I thought I'd just try it. It starts tomorrow, so what have I got to lose?"

Sometimes the biggest changes don't come from doing something dramatic. They come from seeing familiar things differently and making the most of what was already there.

So this week, where could you add a little more movement into your day?
